Bobby's sermon this past Sunday was about why Jesus resurrection and ascension into Heaven matters and how it greatly affects us. If we are in Christ, when God looks at us, He sees His Son whom He adores. Because Jesus ascended, we know we are accepted, forgiven, and redeemed. We are meant to house the fullness of God, anything less is beneath our dignity. If our identity is found in our job, roles, sexuality, hobbies, habits, etc. we're not thinking high enough. Who we are is unknowable outside of Jesus. He has given his life and Spirit to us. We are precious children of God. This is our supreme identity. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/resurrection-and-ascension
"Hurriedness is an inner attitude that is not necessarily caused by our circumstances... The solution to the problem is counterintuitive: being present where you are. The most important aspects of our lives cannot be rushed. We cannot love, eat, laugh or pray in a hurry... In our spiritual life we cannot do anything important in a hurry. Jesus told Martha, "There is need of only one thing." That one thing is listening to Jesus... Martha's way was good, but Mary's way was better. Too many of us are trying to serve God without listening to God. There will be time to serve, but listening to Jesus always takes precedence." - James Bryan Smith
Easter Sunday Bobby preached about our extravagant God. God recklessly gives his life, love, and grace to us. Our self centeredness and/or our self righteousness keeps us from receiving the unconditional, never ending love that God longs to give us. May we never take for granted the cost of God's love. There is nothing we could ever do to earn or repay his sacrifice. May we be ever changed by God's reckless, extravagant love for us. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Prodigal-Savior/
Who am I that the highest King Would welcome me? I was lost but He brought me in Oh His love for me Oh His love for me https://youtu.be/IcC1Bp13n_4
On Sunday, Bobby preached about expectations. We all have expectations and have all experienced frustration or discouragement over unmet expectations. What can we anchor ourselves in that won't let us down? How can we move towards the Lord instead of away when we struggle with unmet expectations? http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Expectations/
"Maybe vulnerability is true strength. Maybe sacrificing yourself for the good of another is not a sign of weakness but is the greatest power the world ever knows. Our weakness prevents us from being able to forgive. Our fear keeps us from surrender and sacrifice. But people "in whom Christ dwells" learn to live and give as Jesus did. Jesus is not merely a model to emulate or imitate, he is the source of strength to rely upon. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. In the incarnation God, who created millions of spinning galaxies, chose to become vulnerable, and in doing so, heaven came down and kissed the earth. In the crucifixion God, who could not die, subjected himself to death, and in so doing lifted the whole world to himself." -James Bryan Smith
Check out Bobby's sermon from yesterday about the church. What is our identity as the church? Saved people become agents of life. There is no room for pride, racism, or division in the church. We are given a new identity and purpose in the church. We bring God's presence wherever we go as the church. "My deepest awareness of myself is that I am deeply loved by Jesus and have done nothing to earn or deserve it." Being the church, sons and daughters of God, should inform how we view ourselves, others, and go about our every day life. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/What-is-the-Church/?
Are you interested in getting involved at dunstable church, wanting to build relationships, or looking for a bible study? Every Tuesday night our community group meets at 7pm at the parsonage. What is community group? Our goal is to build community with each other. We spend time together building friendships, studying the bible, praying, and processing life together. We often discuss the sermon text from Sunday and may do some book studies in the future. Every month or so we have a dinner night and through the fall we got together to watch football or enjoy firepits. If you have questions or would like to join us, please let us know! Thank you so much, Dunstable Evangelical Congregational Church and all those from the surrounding communities who helped us donate diapers, wipes, gift cards, household items, and $460 to My Father's House in Chelmford, MA. The donations were greatly appreciated!
This was one of my favorite sermons Bobby has ever done from a few weeks ago. If you truly consider who Jesus is and what he has done, it will result in either anger or worship. Apathy is not a logical option. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Destroying-Herod/
Bobby and I (Shelly) tag teamed the sermon this week on what it's looks like to carry both the promise of hope and yet the reality of pain and struggle. What beautiful examples we have in Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Elizabeth. We see through their stories how God breathes life into barrenness and brings light into darkness. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Bearing-Mary-and-Elizabeth/
Community group is tonight at 7pm at the parsonage. We'd love for you to join us whether you've been before or not. It's a time to connect and get to know each other, read the bible and discuss how it impacts us, and pray together. We hope to see you tonight!
Bobby's sermon this past Sunday talked about how God's law is good in it's existence, purpose, and uniqueness. He dug into the sabbath and God's heart and purpose behind it. The purpose of the sabbath is not for us to do nothing. The purpose of the sabbath is to remind us that God is the one who makes us holy. We are able to rest in the work he did for us on the cross. We can stop our striving and remember his holiness offered to us. What a humbling, glorious gift of true rest we are given in Jesus. http://dunstablechurch.wixsite.com/website/living-nativity
God does not ask us to obey his commands to earn his forgiveness and love. God first revealed who he is, a God of power and grace. He offers deliverance for all through Jesus' sacrifice. Obedience to His commands is our response to this undeserved gift from a good, faithful God. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Weight-of-Glory/
Sunday School starts September 9th at 10am! Ages 6 yrs. and up will be going through a new curriculum that we're excited to share with you. It’s called New City Catechism. What Is a Catechism?* A catechism is a collection of biblical doctrines, assembled into a question-and-answer format. The term simply means “to teach or instruct.” The curriculum is designed to help children not only learn sound doctrine, but also to learn how to respond to it and live it out in their lives. Each lesson also connects to one of the following virtues Awe, Forgiveness, Gratitude, Honesty, Hope, Humility, Joy, Love, Perseverance, and Trust. The curriculum seeks to develop in children a mature Christian character, shaped by Scripture, that will be counter cultural and striking in our world. By cultivating the capacities for character in both the heart and mind, this curriculum prepares children to love God and others. (*Some excerpts taken from curriculum introduction: http://newcitycatechism.com/introduction-timothy-keller/) Here is a promo video with more info: http://newcitycatechism.com/introduction-timothy-keller/) We hope your families will join us and let us know if you have any questions!
Bobby Ross shared last Sunday about what it can mean to share your faith. It's not sharing facts about a religion. It can be a meaningful interaction that's brings hope to a world that is longing for it. God offers us a different perspective on who we are and the reality we face. We can share with others how God is meeting us in our fears, pain, and challenges. We can walk with others and give them a glimpse of how faith in Jesus changes us. We can share with people, not some impersonal truth, but our own stories of faith and freedom and the journeys we continue on with Jesus. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Sharing-Our-Faith-As-We-Go/
On Sunday, Bobby Ross preached on growing in depth in our faith. He went through Luke 5:1-11 and talked about how we can receive from the Lord and experience God's kingdom now, not just after we die. It was a deeply encouraging and exciting message. If you weren't able to hear it, I encourage you to listen. http://www.sermoncloud.com/dunstable-evangelical-congregational-church/Growing-In-Depth/ We'd love for you to join us on Wednesday nights for community group at 7pm at the parsonage as we look closer at this text and discuss how to practically apply these truths to our lives.
Join us tonight at 7pm at Bobby and Shelly's home for our weekly community group! We'll dig into the scripture, discuss how we can apply it to our daily lives, and pray together. We'll be discussing Romans 12:1-21 over coffee and snacks. All are welcome. Email [email protected] for directions or any questions. We hope to see you tonight!
